circle title

An exhibition at Le Cadre Gallery in Toronto in 1975. These pieces were the first main presentation of the circle paintings.

"I paint with an underlying feeling of mathematical precision, analytical and geometric, and I hope that those who see my work will share this feeling" In this case using the circle as a vehicle for explorations in colour and design. The circle represents completeness and is a singularly potent visual image. It can be a central reality as in the sun, moon, wheel, mantra and many more things. The white shapes are in major contrast to the dark Prussian blue - this colour becomes depth not surface to permit the graduated colours to ascend or descend in the niche they occupy.
